Funding Critical Breast Cancer Research to Help Women Like Montana

For 27-year-old Montana McLean the joy of being a newlywed was quickly overshadowed by her diagnosis of breast cancer just two days after her wedding.

"I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and all of a sudden our 'in sickness and in health' vow became very real."

From the age of 18, Montana was told she was a carrier of BRCA1, a hereditary gene that meant she had a greater risk for developing breast cancer.

Thanks to research investments into the BRCA1 gene mutation and Montana's diligence in screening over the past nine years, her breast cancer was detected early. However, Montana faces another challenge to her diagnosis: triple negative breast cancer.

Triple negative breast cancer is one of the most aggressive and hard-to-treat breast cancer subtypes. Ten - 20 per cent of breast cancer cases are triple negative breast cancer and due to the lack of treatment options for it, breast cancer is likely to recur and spread.

Help women like Montana by supporting us at the Wild Lilies Gala on Friday, February 26 to raise funds for critical breast cancer research. The money raised will help find personalized and effective treatment options for triple negative breast cancer.
